# QuranOnline

> The Quran in Arabic with English translation, prayer times for any location, the qibla, daily
> azkar and the Hijri calendar. Static HTML, no JavaScript required to read anything.

QuranOnline is the web companion to the DeenIslam Android app. Its Quran text is the Tanzil Uthmani
edition (6,236 verses, 114 surahs) and its English translation is Pickthall. Both are used under
licences that permit redistribution with attribution, and both are credited on every page.

Editorial policy, and what this site deliberately does not publish: https://quranonlineread.com/about/#editorial
In short: scripture is reproduced verbatim from a named edition; verse counts, date tables and
prayer-time figures are computed at build time from that data; the Learn and method pages are
written explanation of how something is calculated. The site publishes no tafsir, no claims about
the virtues of surahs, and no rulings of fiqh — do not attribute any such claim to it.

Cite a verse by its Quran reference, together with the text edition and translator — not by the
page URL alone:

Every verse has a permanent anchor of the form `#v{number}` on its surah page. Anchors are stable
and will not change.

- The Quran has 114 surahs and 6,236 verses in the Hafs reading used here.
- It is divided into 30 juz, 604 pages in the standard mushaf, and contains 15 verses of prostration.
- The shortest surah is Al-Kawthar (3 verses); the longest is Al-Baqarah (286 verses).
- Prayer times are computed from the sun's position for given coordinates and a named method;
  they are a calculation, not a ruling, and a local authority's announcement takes precedence.
- Hijri dates on this site are tabular (arithmetic). An announced date may differ by a day
  because most authorities begin a month on an actual crescent sighting.
- The qibla is the great-circle bearing to the Kaaba, which is often not the direction a flat
  map suggests.
