# Surah Al-A'la (الأعلى)

Surah Al-A'la (الأعلى, "The Most High") is chapter 87 of the Quran and contains 19 verses. It is a Meccan surah, revealed 8th of the 114. It appears in juz 30, on pages 591–592 of the standard mushaf, divided into 1 rukus.

## Text

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

**87:1** سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى

> Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High,

**87:2** ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

> Who createth, then disposeth;

**87:3** وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ

> Who measureth, then guideth;

**87:4** وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ

> Who bringeth forth the pasturage,

**87:5** فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ

> Then turneth it to russet stubble.

**87:6** سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ

> We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget

**87:7** إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ

> Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden;

**87:8** وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ

> And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.

**87:9** فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

> Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.

**87:10** سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ

> He will heed who feareth,

**87:11** وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى

> But the most hapless will flout it,

**87:12** ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

> He who will be flung to the great Fire

**87:13** ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ

> Wherein he will neither die nor live.

**87:14** قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ

> He is successful who groweth,

**87:15** وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ

> And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth,

**87:16** بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

> But ye prefer the life of the world

**87:17** وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ

> Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.

**87:18** إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ

> Lo! This is in the former scrolls.

**87:19** صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ

> The Books of Abraham and Moses.
