# Surah Al-Mursalat (المرسلات)

Surah Al-Mursalat (المرسلات, "The Emissaries") is chapter 77 of the Quran and contains 50 verses. It is a Meccan surah, revealed 33th of the 114. It appears in juz 29, on pages 580–581 of the standard mushaf, divided into 2 rukus.

## Text

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

**77:1** وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ عُرْفًا

> By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another

**77:2** فَٱلْعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصْفًا

> By the raging hurricanes,

**77:3** وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًا

> By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;

**77:4** فَٱلْفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرْقًا

> By those who winnow with a winnowing,

**77:5** فَٱلْمُلْقِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا

> By those who bring down the Reminder,

**77:6** عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا

> To excuse or to warn,

**77:7** إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌ

> Surely that which ye are promised will befall.

**77:8** فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ

> So when the stars are put out,

**77:9** وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ

> And when the sky is riven asunder,

**77:10** وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ

> And when the mountains are blown away,

**77:11** وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ

> And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -

**77:12** لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ

> For what day is the time appointed?

**77:13** لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ

> For the Day of Decision.

**77:14** وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ

> And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -

**77:15** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:16** أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

> Destroyed We not the former folk,

**77:17** ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

> Then caused the latter folk to follow after?

**77:18** كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

> Thus deal We ever with the guilty.

**77:19** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:20** أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ

> Did We not create you from a base fluid

**77:21** فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ

> Which We laid up in a safe abode

**77:22** إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

> For a known term?

**77:23** فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَٰدِرُونَ

> Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!

**77:24** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:25** أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا

> Have We not made the earth a receptacle

**77:26** أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًا

> Both for the living and the dead,

**77:27** وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَٰمِخَٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًا

> And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein?

**77:28** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:29** ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

> (It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;

**77:30** ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٍ

> Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,

**77:31** لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ

> (Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.

**77:32** إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِ

> Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,

**77:33** كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ

> (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.

**77:34** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:35** هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ

> This is a day wherein they speak not,

**77:36** وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ

> Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.

**77:37** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:38** هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ جَمَعْنَٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

> This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.

**77:39** فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ

> If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.

**77:40** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:41** إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَٰلٍ وَعُيُونٍ

> Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,

**77:42** وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

> And fruits such as they desire.

**77:43** كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

> (Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.

**77:44** إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

> Thus do We reward the good.

**77:45** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:46** كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ

> Eat and take your ease (on earth) a little. Lo! ye are guilty.

**77:47** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:48** وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ

> When it is said unto them: Bow down, they bow not down!

**77:49** وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

> Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

**77:50** فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ

> In what statement, after this, will they believe?
