# Surah An-Nazi'at (النازعات)

Surah An-Nazi'at (النازعات, "Those who drag forth") is chapter 79 of the Quran and contains 46 verses. It is a Meccan surah, revealed 81th of the 114. It appears in juz 30, on pages 583–584 of the standard mushaf, divided into 2 rukus.

## Text

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

**79:1** وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرْقًا

> By those who drag forth to destruction,

**79:2** وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشْطًا

> By the meteors rushing,

**79:3** وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبْحًا

> By the lone stars floating,

**79:4** فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبْقًا

> By the angels hastening,

**79:5** فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا

> And those who govern the event,

**79:6** يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ

> On the day when the first trump resoundeth.

**79:7** تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ

> And the second followeth it,

**79:8** قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ

> On that day hearts beat painfully

**79:9** أَبْصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٌ

> While eyes are downcast

**79:10** يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ

> (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state

**79:11** أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًا نَّخِرَةً

> Even after we are crumbled bones?

**79:12** قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ

> They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.

**79:13** فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ

> Surely it will need but one shout,

**79:14** فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ

> And lo! they will be awakened.

**79:15** هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ

> Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses?

**79:16** إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى

> How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,

**79:17** ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ

> (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled -

**79:18** فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ

> And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)?

**79:19** وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ

> Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).

**79:20** فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

> And he showed him the tremendous token.

**79:21** فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ

> But he denied and disobeyed,

**79:22** ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ

> Then turned he away in haste,

**79:23** فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ

> Then gathered he and summoned

**79:24** فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

> And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."

**79:25** فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ

> So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.

**79:26** إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ

> Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.

**79:27** ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ بَنَىٰهَا

> Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built?

**79:28** رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا

> He raised the height thereof and ordered it;

**79:29** وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا

> And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.

**79:30** وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ

> And after that He spread the earth,

**79:31** أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا

> And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,

**79:32** وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا

> And He made fast the hills,

**79:33** مَتَٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ

> A provision for you and for your cattle.

**79:34** فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

> But when the great disaster cometh,

**79:35** يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ

> The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour,

**79:36** وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ

> And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,

**79:37** فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

> Then, as for him who rebelled

**79:38** وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

> And chose the life of the world,

**79:39** فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

> Lo! hell will be his home.

**79:40** وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ

> But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,

**79:41** فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

> Lo! the Garden will be his home.

**79:42** يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا

> They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?

**79:43** فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ

> Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?

**79:44** إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ

> Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.

**79:45** إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا

> Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.

**79:46** كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا

> On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
