QuranOnline is a free, ad-supported Quran and prayer-times project, available as an Android app and as this website.

Where the content comes from

The Arabic text is the Tanzil Uthmani edition, used verbatim — it is produced and continuously verified by specialists, and we do not edit it. The English translation is Pickthall. Recitation audio is streamed from everyayah.com. Every source and licence is listed on the credits page.

What we do and do not write ourselves

The factual descriptions on each surah page — verse counts, revelation order, juz and page ranges — are generated directly from the verified text database, so they cannot drift from the text they describe. We do not publish commentary, claims about the virtues of particular surahs, or accounts of the circumstances of revelation, because those require scholarly sourcing and review rather than generation.

Editorial policy

Every page on this site falls into one of three kinds, and each is held to a different standard.

Scripture and translation

Reproduced verbatim from a named, licensed edition and never edited, reworded or abridged. The Arabic is Tanzil's Uthmani text; the English is Pickthall. If either source publishes a correction, we take it; we do not make corrections of our own to a text we did not establish.

Generated fact

Verse counts, revelation order, juz and page ranges, Hijri and Gregorian date tables, and prayer-time figures are computed from the verified database and the published astronomical routines at build time. Nothing in this category is typed by hand, so it cannot drift from the data it describes. Where a figure is arithmetic rather than observed — a tabular Hijri date, for instance — the page says so on the page.

Written explanation

The Learn articles and the calculation-method pages are written by the project and describe how something is computed or how a convention is defined. They explain established practice and cite the bodies that set it. They are not religious rulings.

What this site does not publish, deliberately: tafsir, claims about the virtues of particular surahs, accounts of the circumstances of revelation, or any answer to a question of fiqh. Those require scholarly authority and review that this project does not hold, and generating them would be the single most damaging thing it could do. Where a reader needs one, the right answer is a qualified scholar, not a website.

Prayer times are a calculation, not a verdict. The site implements published methods and names which one it used; where a local authority announces different times, the local authority is the one to follow.

Reporting an error

If you find an error in the text, the translation or a description, please report it through the developer contact on the Google Play listing. Errors in scripture are the most serious kind of bug this project can have, and corrections are prioritised over every other kind of work. Where the error is in the Arabic text itself, it is reported upstream to Tanzil rather than patched here — see the editorial policy above.
