Divisions of the Quran
The 7 manzils of the Quran
The Quran is divided into seven manzils so that it can be read in a week, one manzil a day. Each begins at the start of a surah: Al-Fatihah, Al-Ma'idah, Yunus, Al-Isra, Ash-Shu'ara, As-Saffat and Qaf. Because they follow surah boundaries they are not equal in length, ranging from 72 to 106 pages.
| Manzil | From | To | Para (juz) | Pages | Verses |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Al-Fatihah 1:1 | An-Nisa 4:176 | 1–6 | 1–106 | 669 |
| 2 | Al-Ma'idah 5:1 | At-Tawbah 9:129 | 6–11 | 106–207 | 695 |
| 3 | Yunus 10:1 | An-Nahl 16:128 | 11–14 | 208–281 | 665 |
| 4 | Al-Isra 17:1 | Al-Furqan 25:77 | 15–19 | 282–366 | 903 |
| 5 | Ash-Shu'ara 26:1 | Ya-Sin 36:83 | 19–23 | 367–445 | 856 |
| 6 | As-Saffat 37:1 | Al-Hujurat 49:18 | 23–26 | 446–517 | 842 |
| 7 | Qaf 50:1 | An-Nas 114:6 | 26–30 | 518–604 | 1606 |
Pages of the standard 604-page Madinah mushaf. A manzil that begins partway down a page shares that page with the one before.

Manzil, juz and hizb
The mushaf carries three overlapping divisions, each made for a different pace of reading. The 30 juz (paras) are equal shares of the text, for reading in a month; the 60 hizb halve each juz; and the seven manzils follow whole surahs, for reading in a week. A manzil and a juz therefore rarely start at the same place: only manzil 1, at the opening of the Quran, does.

Common questions
How many manzils are in the Quran?
Seven. Each begins at the start of a surah, and together they divide the whole text so that it can be read in a week, one manzil a day.
What are the 7 manzils of the Quran?
Manzil 1: Al-Fatihah to An-Nisa (surahs 1–4); Manzil 2: Al-Ma'idah to At-Tawbah (surahs 5–9); Manzil 3: Yunus to An-Nahl (surahs 10–16); Manzil 4: Al-Isra to Al-Furqan (surahs 17–25); Manzil 5: Ash-Shu'ara to Ya-Sin (surahs 26–36); Manzil 6: As-Saffat to Al-Hujurat (surahs 37–49); Manzil 7: Qaf to An-Nas (surahs 50–114).
In which para is each manzil?
Manzil 1 runs through paras 1–6; Manzil 2 runs through paras 6–11; Manzil 3 runs through paras 11–14; Manzil 4 runs through paras 15–19; Manzil 5 runs through paras 19–23; Manzil 6 runs through paras 23–26; Manzil 7 runs through paras 26–30. A manzil starts at a surah and a para at a fixed share of the text, so most paras are split between two manzils.
Which manzil is the longest?
By pages, manzil 1, at 106 pages. By verses, manzil 7, with 1,606 — its 65 surahs are mostly short, so it holds many more verses on fewer pages.
Is a manzil the same as the Manzil booklet?
No. The seven manzils are divisions of the whole Quran. "Manzil" is also the name of a short booklet of selected verses compiled for recitation, which is a separate compilation; this page is about the divisions.
